Credit systems and credit ratings used in Australia to assess borrowing capacity differs to the approach in SA. Australian financial institutions take into account, among other things, an applicant's marital status, whether they have dependants, any fixed debts you may have and calculates the borrowing capacity from your net income.

As for your credit rating - while it is common practice to build up a credit rating in SA, Australian financial institutions instead look at other factors, such as job history and stability, length of time in previous residence, income and savings and assess the application after looking at these and other factors.

Westpac understands that obtaining credit in a new country is not always an easy task. They have dedicated credit managers to assist new migrants through the applications process, having implemented special credit policies to assist these Migrants.
